Measuring 17” square, this large antique 19th century American Embroidery Sampler was completed by Lucy Ann Powells at Pleasant Grove Academy in Robeson Co North Carolina on June 12th, 1840. In the center of this sampler is a friendship poem which reads, “O Friendship what sincere delights are thine, Fair miniature of happiness divine, Propitious pleasing heavn descended guest, Who only with the virtuous can rest.”
…… The white letters and flowers are embroidered with silk thread and as you can see many of the letters and numbers are missing plus there is some slight bleeding to the green thread along the bottom edges. A past owner framed this early 19th century sampler under glass in a 17 ½” square rosewood frame, and to make sure some eBayer wins this American Folk Art Embroidery Sampler
